They're Only Human

"A human being has a natural desire to have more of a good thing than he needs." (Mark Twain)

Aha, Mr. Twain! It all makes sense now. This is why I have trouble stopping at one Krispy Kreme donut! Why I want to watch two hours of Netflix instead of 30 minutes. Why small children do just about everything they do.

Seriously – this is a great thought to keep in mind as a leader, especially when it comes to, say, setting budget limits with our team at work, or food limits with our children at home. People don’t automatically like when we do this. They grumble, fuss, and moan. That’s ok. In fact, according to Twain, it’s natural. It doesn’t make us or them greedy, lazy, disrespectful, or rude.

It just makes them human.

Just like us.

Peace begins with a pause,
