Feeling tense?

"But I must confess that I am not afraid of the word 'tension'. There is a type of constructive, nonviolent tension which is necessary for growth.” (Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.)

To say things can get tense these days would be…a bit of an understatement. When two opposing forces pull away from each other toward extremes, the resulting tension between them can stretch the limits of dialogue, debate, and the relationship itself.

But, as Dr. King states above, it is precisely this tension which can lead to growth. All that’s needed is one of the two opposing parties, in the midst of this tension, to stay committed to nonviolent, nonreactive communication toward the other, regardless of what the other side does.

This is simply how all relationships work (especially marriage!).

What, did you think I was talking about politics?
